Indulge the Mirror is a look into the reflection of Joseph Mooney, an up-and-coming trumpet player from South Carolina. Independently releasing his first record, Indulge the Mirror features four original compositions and arrangements detailing the ups and downs of Mooney’s career in music school.
Supported by a highly skilled cast of musicians, Josh Perry on Drums, Alex Vlandis, and Jesus Fuentes on the Keys, Elijah Donellan on the bass, and a vocal feature from Ansley Gaffney.
Each original composition reveals a significant moment in the four years of Mooney’s undergraduate. From the hours of endless practice to losing some of the most important people closest to him, “Indulge the Mirror is a representation of the growing pains of a musician in their early twenties.” Listeners can expect to hear the influences of Clifford Brown and Max Roach in End of Control, and Freddie Hubbard and Roy Hargrove in Shedding the Layers. The album progresses through various jazz styles, taking influence from different eras of the music to create something authentic to Mooney.
Indulge the Mirror is dedicated to the struggle of an artist in music school and is the first of many recordings to come from Joseph Mooney.
